The start

Hi there! Nice to read you here (or you read me (?), anyway)

Before starting this blog, I would like my self and tell my story and the reason to start this blog.

My name is Arturo Villanueva and I'm from Mexico, specifically from a little city whose named Colima. I was born and rise there.

I got a bachelor's degree in Nutrition from the University of Colima and after that a Master's in Physiologic Science. To be honest, I was not very sure what I wanted to be once I grew up, and back when I was 18 years old I was not sure about my career. I choose Nutrition because back in the day I was a healthy person that enjoyed going to the gym and eating healthy, and also interested in biology. My mom told me that picking nutrition as a career could be a good option and I thought was a no-brain election.

Eventually, I felt regret about not thinking enough about my future and I decided to move to the research area.  I wanted to be an investigator and not work only with people that complain about their weight all time. I was looking for a career that allow me to solve problems that seems important for my country and also a job that let me work by myself ( I didn't enjoy so much listen to the stories about how difficult was for a mature lady to stop drinking coke, I mean that is SO common in Mexico).

In 2017 I started my master's in CUIB ( Centro de Investigaciones Biomedicas or Biomedical research center for my gringo friends). I studied the relation of miRNA in microvesicles in the generation of chemoresistance in Hepatocarcinoma (mostly bioinformatics, viability studies, PCR and western blot). I liked my role as a researcher ( even if I was only a student) but I felt that science in Mexico was stagnated ( I still think about it). Almost all researchers study things that are convenient for their laboratory instruments or knowledge field and avoid collaboration with other researchers. My university was a pretty toxic environment and I barely could manage to finish my degree. Once I finished, I decided to move and try something else. I wanted to keep studying but staying in Mexico seems like not a good option.

I travelled to Canada. In February 2020 I moved to Canada for the very first time ( my first time flying to another country!). Everything was so cold, clean and modern. It was like a dream, my eyes never saw something similar ( basically because I lived in the same city for 26 years, maybe)

I have been in Canada since that February, working hard and doing my best, looking back to my career. I enjoy science, but what I enjoy the most is Learning. So, I decided that I want to make a career as a Data analyst, which is a work that allows me to get knowledge all the time. Being a data analyst can be a way to keep my path as a researcher but know specifically in the field of bioinformatics. But also I'm open to working in other fields, because back in the days of my master what I was enjoying was knowing more about specific topics. I enjoy reasoned ideas and data well collected.

The reason that I decided to open this blog is to report my path to be a data analyst and show the people that read and myself that is possible to start a new path even if you are 29.

I hope you have a really good day and I read to you later!
